What This Helps You Do

Convert between filament length, weight, and cost when a slicer or spool label uses different units.

This is a manual-input workflow. It does not use live prices, uploaded model files, accounts, saved quotes, or external APIs.

Steps

  1. Enter filament diameter and material density.
  2. Enter a known filament weight to estimate length.
  3. Enter spool price and net spool weight to estimate cost per meter.
  4. Use target length when you want to estimate how many grams a measured length will use.

Example Inputs

Filament diameter1.75 mm
Density1.24 g/cm3
Known filament weight1000 g
Spool price$24

Example Outputs

Grams per meterAbout 2.98 g/m
Estimated spool lengthAbout 335 m
Cost per meterAbout $0.0716/m

Formula

Grams per meter uses the filament cylinder volume for one meter multiplied by material density. Cost per meter = grams per meter x cost per gram.

Checklist

  • Use measured diameter and density for better accuracy.
  • Do not mix gross spool weight with net filament weight.
  • Use the filament density calculator when you want to estimate density from a measured sample.

FAQ

Is this a general 3D printing article?

No. This guide is tied to a calculator or template and includes concrete inputs, outputs, and a formula.

Does this guide use live prices or uploaded model files?

No. Use your own slicer values, prices, and shop assumptions. PrintCostCalc does not upload models or fetch live prices.
